§ Reference / Confidence rubric

How we grade

Every Eluent dossier carries one of five confidence grades. The grade is the primitive — same scale on the result page, OG share image, and embed badge. It encodes how much the sequence is trusted, not whether the peptide is good or bad.

A
Exact match · seed table

Sequence matches a curated reference (seed table or UniProt Peptide Search exact substring). Identity, target, and citations all validated.

≥ 99%
B
Close homolog

BLAST hit in UniProt at ≥ 90% identity over the full length, e-value ≤ 1e-10. Likely the same biological entity with minor sequence variation.

≥ 90% identity
C
Distant homolog

BLAST hit at ≥ 70% identity. Probable family membership but not a confirmed exact peptide. Mechanism inferred from family.

≥ 70% identity
D
Novel / unknown

No reliable hit in UniProt or seed table. Treated as a novel sequence. No mechanism, no targets, no citations.

< 70% / no hit
X
Invalid input

Input failed canonicalization or is too short (< 3 aa) or contains non-amino-acid characters. Likely a typo or wrong field.

non-peptide / typo
